How to find a job abroad ?

Messagepar Elmut » 10 févr. 2017, 17:10

Hi everyone !

I am currently trying to find a job in the UK for this summer, but it is quite difficult... The problem is, I have little to no experience in working in the real life (I have only been a temporary bank clerk for one month last summer...).
Does any of you have an idea ? Have you ever worked in an other country ?

I guess you could work at a McDonald or something like that. I don't know how it works in the UK but in France you don't really need any experience to apply. Not very challenging nor fulfilling though, I know...
Have you got any contact in the UK to help you ? If not it might be a bit complicated indeed...

Actually my biggest problem is not really to find a job (as you said, there are plenty of *shitty* jobs available for students..) but it is more to find where to live... (even hostels are expensive !)
Nope, I have neither friends nor family in the UK... :/

Maybe you could find a host family whose child needs some support in learning French ?

You should ask Milton he worked there for a month or so back in 2014.

A friend of friend of […] of my father was CEO of a small engineering corporation, so I sent him a motivation letter and a résumé, in English, asking him for a two weeks internship in July, and he was all right.
Actually, I think there could be better way to train one’s English, as an office work doesn’t really push one into speaking English. But it was clean more profitable than only doing sightseeing, and I managed to spend time with my colleagues out of the office hours. :D

Oh that's pretty cool !
I agree, there are better ways to speak English (Erasmus, for example...), but since I don't know any native speaker, and I m quite short on money... Finding a job could be the best solution !

I answer you a little bit late, but if you're not afraid to be tired I guess you could try to do wwoofing. The concept is to help in a farm (you don't need huge agricultural skills, being strongly motivated is enough), in exchange for which you are housed, fed, and your airfare is refunded. It is usually not very lucrative, but it is a good way to improve your English without having to worry about where to live and how to pay your stay. I never wwoofed myself, but I can attest that helping farmers can make you feel pretty usefull
