What is your level in english ?
Hello,
I open this section for ask you about your abilities in english.
For me, english has always been a difficulty, but I made progresses this year in MP*.
If you are in MPSI with M. Truflandier, you won't have nothing to wait for english.
However, I see that master this language is a good asset in a near future...

Re: What is your level in english ?
I've been in the European section for 3 years only. But it was a very bad one
. It was very boring, we didn't speak a lot, we had to struggle to a trip to London... I'm not happy at all. Therefore my English isn't very good. Fortunately, I've been to English-speaking countries but it's not miraculous.
Is English really important in Fermat?

Re: What is your level in english ?
English isn't very important in Fermat, but a middle level is required (or a high level).
If your english isn't fluent, don't panic, you'll progress !
With the individual orals, you'll learn to express yourself, and tests will help you to write a good english. Not an excellent english, I recognize it...

Re: What is your level in english ?
id also say fluent, but thats all.
i mean i've never had the chance to go to an english speaking country (except once, it was 5 years ago, i went to wales with my middle school), but ive had great teachers.
But (cuz yes, theres a but) the teacher i had this year was just... (hum i dont dare say useless). we never wrote anything except short sentences with not a single linking word such as "this text is an article. this text is about globalization", but of course we had to learn our vocabulary for our orals..because it is sooooooooo much more important than maths and physics.
The whole part of my english lessons is music =)

what do you think about Mme Loubet?
She was my teacher this year and I was a bit dissapointed about her teaching methods.

Re: What is your level in english ?
Mrs Loubet was my english teacher this year in MP*.
Her methods can be contested, but I had a very bad level after my first year with Mr Truflandier.
With her, I had to work english : she gave to us almost 20 tranlations and 15 themes in the year. Centrale/Mines/X/ENS, we have done everything.
She prepares to the exams, but we can speak about exageration... Maths and Physics are more important !
However, I have done great progresses in english !
So, thanks to you Mrs Loubet
I believe understanding : we have bad teachers in MPSI/MP, except in MP*. For you, HEC, english has a major place...

Re: What is your level in english ?
We have studied only a couple of texts and i think that we really improve our level thanks to them. Nevertheless, like your class, we have done so many translations. English is not as important as you believe. Coef 4 whereas maths is 11, history 6, philosophy 4 etc...

Re: What is your level in english ?
I'd say fluent as much. Actually, I've been in a European class for 6 years, but the last 3 were useless, unfortunately.
And even if my English is not perfect, I try to improve it whenever I can : looking films in the original version, watching English-spoken TV news, reading books, chatting with strangers. But I do not do that in order to obtain good marks, I (nearly ^^) don't care : I do that because I think that English is a very beautiful language (unlike Spanish, grrr
) and it's always a pleasure for me to hear or to speak some English
I've been in England once, it was 3 months ago, and I stayed two weeks with a family; it was a really good experience, and I drank a lot of beer
And I can see here that I'm not as good as Maxime to put linking words everywhere in my sentences, I hope this will not handicap me

My level is not ... so, I have not been in an european section, never travelled in an English country ... but this summer, I'm going to spend a month in the USA ... I hope it will be great, but I'm afraid my english won't improve so easily.
And I'm sure you will laugh reading me, because it must be bourred of errors.

Re: What is your level in english ?
Hum be careful with Shakespeare, it's not the easiest author you can find. I mean, I read nearly anything in English, from novels to poetry ( Keats... <3, why can't we have such an amazing poet in France) or even some science magazines but Shakespeare lived in the 16th century and English has changed a lot since his death. It's just like reading Rabelais, beautiful old language but it's a foreign old language
